Parenting Programmes
Strengthening Families Programme
The Strengthening Families Programme is a 14 session family skills training programme designed to increase resilience and reduce the risk factors for substance misuse, depression, violence and aggression, involvement in crime, and school failure in high risk, 13-17 year old children and
their parents.
The SFP curriculum includes three courses (Parent skills training, Teen skills training and Family life skills training). In the first hour, parents and children participate in separate classes; each class is led by 2 co-facilitators. Parents learn to increase desired behaviours in children by using attention and rewards, clear communication, effective discipline, substance use education, problem solving, and limit setting.
Incredible Years Programme
The Incredible Years® is a series of interlocking, evidence-based programs for parents, children, and teachers, supported by over 30 years of research. The goal is to prevent and treat young children's behavior problems and promote their social, emotional, and academic competence. The programs are used worldwide in schools and mental health centers, and have been shown to work across cultures and socioeconomic groups. There are separate parent programs for babies (0-1 year), toddlers (1-3 years), pre-schoolers (3-6 years) and school age children (6-12 years).
Parenting when separated programme
The Parenting When Separated Programme, developed by Parents Plus, supports parents navigating separation or divorce while prioritizing their children's well-being. It provides practical strategies for reducing conflict, improving communication, and maintaining strong parent-child relationships. Delivered over multiple sessions, it helps parents create effective arrangements, build resilience, and support their children in coping with family changes. Research shows that participants experience reduced stress and improved family dynamics.
Healthy food made easy
The Healthy Food Made Easy Programme, developed by HSE community dietitians, promotes better nutrition and cooking skills. Aimed at individuals and families, it teaches meal planning, reading food labels, and preparing simple, nutritious meals on a budget. Through practical cooking sessions, participants learn the importance of balanced diets, fiber intake, and healthier food choices. The programme is especially beneficial for parents, youth groups, and older adults looking to improve their eating habits.
